Founded on 1st August 1803, it is the largest Theravada Buddhist Temple in Penang. Also known as Nandy Moloh or a place of public worship. The temple land was purchased by Nonya Betong from The British for 390 Spanish dollars.
The temple is dominated by a magnificent 8.2 metres high central image of Buddha. Sixteen 8 foot standing images and hundreds of smaller white figures grace the wall behind the central image. The temple entrance is guarded by a pair a pair of sculptured elephants.
