Explosive countdown
PENANG will usher in 2012 with a grand countdown event which will feature a four-hour live concert.
Top local artistes will perform at the concert which will spice up the Penang Golden New Year’s Eve Countdown that will be simultaneously held with the George Town City Day Celebration 2012 at the Esplanade on Dec 31.
The concert, to start at 9pm, will be hosted by radio station deejays KK and Myra from 988 and SuriaFM respectively.
“It will be a day replete with excellent entertainment. In the meantime, the public can vote for their favourite artistes at www.facebook.com/creativision and win prizes,’ said Adelyn Lim who is the managing director of Creative D.C. Sdn Bhd, the event organiser.
She said this at a press conference yesterday which was attended by Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and Penang Municipal Council (MPPP) president Patahiyah Ismail.
Prior to the concert, a series of cultural performances and light shows will be organised by MPPP from 7pm onwards.
Earlier in the day, some 150 BMW and Harley-Davidson bikers will be flagged off at noon from Batu Kawan and cross the Penang Bridge in a heritage ride.
They will visit tourist sites such as Suffolk House, Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion and City Hall before finishing at Fort Cornwallis.
Dance enthusiasts can look forward to the ‘Bring it to de Street’ street dance competition to be held from 3pm to 6pm at the same day at the same venue.
The competition is open to all amateur and semi-professional hip-hop dancers aged between 15 and 25.
The top three winners will take home cash prizes of RM2,500, RM1,500 and RM500 respectively.
The countdown will culminate with a fireworks display at the stroke of midnight.
Mobile telecommunications company Celcom Axiata Berhad, and property developers Mah Sing Group Berhad and Equine Capital Berhad are the event sponsors.
