news and informationbusiness,health,entertainment,technology

Address: Lot 2180 Jalan R. Ramlee, 10460 Pulau Pinang.

This landmark commemorates the late larger-than-life comedian, actor, singer, composer and film director P. Ramlee. It chronicles his life history as well as showcases personal memorabilia.

This nipah roofed wooden house was built by P. Ramlee’s father, Puteh bin Karim and his uncle, Rejab nin Hussain in 1926. This house was built with recycled wood and materials from an old house located at Lorong Yahudi, which was demolished to give way to the government quarters. His father then had it rebuilt at Caunter Hall (now renamed as Jalan P. Ramlee). On 1948, his uncle renovated the house during the Japanese occupation. It is now restored by Malaysia National Archive, preserving its original design and structure.

P. Ramlee was born in this house on 22 March 1929. He was brought to his parents’ house in Kg Jawa after 44 days when the confinement period is over. Nevertheless, he continued to visit this house every now and then until he left Penang for Singapore.

The profile of P. Ramlee can be found here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P._Ramlee
